On hobbies "Adventures in Jade"

"We all start out in life as enthusiastic riders of hobbies. If you doubt the truth of this, all you need do is examine the bulging pockets of any small boy. What will you find in addition to the pocket knife, the top string, the presidential campaign button or two? You will find stones-common, beautiful stones, water-washed pebbles if the boy lives near the sea, chips of quartz or agate or any fascinating thing brought to the boy's attention along roadside or open field."

James Kraft, Adventure in Jade,
New York, Henry Holt and Company 1947

I found this passage of James's description of a hobby most pleasing. I recall finding stones, and quartz in the driveway to my old home when I too was a small boy. To any jade enthusiast who hasn't read this book, Adventures in Jade, I would highly suggest at least reading it once if not twice. While some of the info may be out of date, printed in 1947, it is still a great book on jade and jade America.

Introduction

Hello and welcome to the Blue Moon Jade blog. My name is Thor Satter, son of Russell Satter (aka Thea Surasu), who was the founder of Blue Moon Jade. My father was the first and original person to mine California's northern mountain botryoidal jade by helicopter. His endeavors were published in an article during a 1999 issue of Arts of Asia. Since his death in 2002 my family and I have continued his legacy, in mild obscurity. It has been ten years now since my father's passing and it is time for a new beginning. The torch passed to me and my family has been inspected, refurbished and ignited with passion. The budding lotus seeds my father planted high in the Trinity Alps of California, I intend to help make bloom into full beauty.

Over the next few months I will be posting the correct information about blue moon jade and many photos of old stock bot jade along with new stock, as well possible new goodies in the works ;)

But by the grace of god
Thank you,
Thor Satter
